I love math – calculus is one of the most beautiful things I've encountered. History 1-A (beginnings to Civil War) and 1-B (Reconstruction to Present) in either order. Also, we had the option to do Stats in either semester. There's a perception out there that if you want to get less drunk, you're better off sticking with something low in alcohol content, like a beer. It not easy to inculcate this subject. Of course, as I got older, it became harder and harder to find the time to write, because I was also supposed to be doing things like calculus--things that I was also good at. What I realized with many of these fields, though, is that the part I'd most enjoy would be writing books about (insert one: economics, chemistry, math). But I wouldn't want to teach it to high school students. Of course, if you're sitting around doing something mind-numbing like calculus, a casual listen-through of your favorite albums is perfectly acceptable. If I told my Calculus teacher that Calculus was my favorite class, she would be shocked. Almost every student tries to move away from this branch of mathematics. However I DO know and love statistics–I just took a grad class in Stat and thoroughly enjoyed it. I do pity you guys quite a bit as I thoroughly enjoyed Calculus 2. You notice your notes flow more easily and it's more comfortable to do things you don't enjoy, like Calculus (or art if you're an alpha-nerd who needs to die). It's not like, say, History, where you can take U. I did it in the first semester and was happy because I got it out of the way. Full disclosure: I teach AP Calculus and I've never taught AP Statistics. It is a very difficult branch of math that consist of lots of formulas and concepts. Cocktail Calculus: How boozy is your poison of choice? EVERYTHING (almost) in ALL those courses comes back to haunt you in calculus!
